Title: Working Safely on Scaffolds
Type: Lesson
A properly erected scaffold is just the start — you also need to use it safely. Falls, dropped tools, overloading, and poor housekeeping are all major risks during daily use.
Use only approved access points:
Ladders, stair towers, or built-in frames
Never climb cross braces
Ensure ladders are secured and extend at least 3 feet above the landing
Access points must be free of obstructions
Store materials neatly to prevent trips or falling objects
Keep walking surfaces dry and clear
Don’t stage materials near edges without toe boards or netting
Tag or barricade damaged scaffolds until repaired
Load ratings must be clearly marked (light, medium, heavy duty)
Do not exceed rated capacity
Be aware of dynamic loads (e.g., jumping, shifting materials) that could destabilize the scaffold
Even a perfectly built scaffold can be deadly if it’s used improperly. Stay alert, stay tidy, and stay within limits.
